Unrequited Love

Heart-pounding breathless agony

Tear-stained stark epiphany

Surpass every reason and all-wise conclusions

Entirely thwarts better, sane, clear decisions

*

Staying calm is no real option

Torment, terrible temptation:

Love is there to stay

To bring its sufferer at bay

Easily described maybe,

Walking hand in hand,

But hard to understand.

*

Inner voices must talk sense

But outer purpose gets too tense

Why must we obey

When reason hides away?

No succour or solace

No delight or trouble

Soothe the predisposed mind:

Drab unending dull routine

Ever smothers the reprieve

For those damned to lonesome grief
